Sign up to be a Team Leader at the 26th Annual Tahoe Truckee Snapshot Day!

Snapshot Day is an annual water quality monitoring event held each May. Groups of volunteers fan out across the Truckee River Watershed to take samples from creeks, streams, and lakes—including Lake Tahoe—to capture a snapshot of Tahoe’s water quality at a moment in time. Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join us as we sample various sites around South Lake Tahoe for things like dissolved oxygen, pH, nutrients and more! At the Team Leader Training, team leaders will learn how to collect data for the day accurately and how to guide their team of 5-10 citizen scientists to success by conducting water sampling at different locations around South Lake Tahoe. You can choose your own team members or be assigned a group of volunteers. 

Team leaders (new and returning) are required to attend the training. This is where you will get hands on practice using all of the testing materials that we will be using in the field on Snapshot Day and be able to ask any questions of our Snapshot Day experts. We will also confirm your sampling locations during this training. 

Sign up:

Click the blue "Sign Up" button to sign up. Each volunteer will need to sign up and complete a waiver individually.

Location: Room S104 at Lake Tahoe Community College (1 College Dr, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150).

Time: 9:30 - 11:30 am

What to bring: Sturdy shoes, long pants, weather-appropriate layers, sun protection including a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a full reusable water bottle.

We provide: Safety materials, sampling equipment, training needed for upcoming Snapshot Day.

Volunteers can sign up to join an existing team, create a team with family and friends, or be a Team Lead at their site. If you are interested in being a Team Leader for Snapshot Day, you will also need to sign up for one Team Leader training. There are two team leader training dates: Friday 5/1/26 from 9:30-11:30 am and Wednesday 6/6/26 from 5-7 pm.

Final details will be sent a few days prior to the event to those who sign up.  Volunteers under 18 - will need to create a volunteer account and provide a guardian email to complete the waiver online.  Volunteers under 13 - will need to provide a guardian email to create a volunteer account and complete the waiver online.

Meeting Location: Lake Tahoe Community College (1 College Dr, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150). Sampling will take place at various sites around South Lake Tahoe.

Time: Sampling: 9 am - noon | Lunch and Fun: noon – 1 pm

We provide: Safety materials, sampling materials, training, snacks, free lunch, and cool giveaways.
