Join us for the 25th Annual Tahoe Truckee Snapshot Day!
Snapshot Day is an annual water quality monitoring event held each May. Groups of volunteers fan out across the Truckee River Watershed to take samples from creeks, streams, and lakes—including Lake Tahoe—to capture a snapshot of Tahoe’s water quality at a moment in time.
Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join us as we sample various sites around South Lake Tahoe for things like dissolved oxygen, pH, nutrients and more! Volunteers can sign up to join an existing team, create a team with family and friends, or be a Team Lead at their site. Team Leads will receive training prior to the event on how to most accurately collect the needed data for the day so they can guide their team of citizen scientists to success! If you are interested in being a Team Leader for Snapshot Day, you will also need to sign up for a Team Leader training happening on either Friday, May 2 from 9:30 - 11:30 am (sign up here) or Wednesday, May 7, from 5 - 7 pm (sign up here).
Sign up:
- Click the blue "Sign Up" button to sign up. Under Additional Volunteer Information Response Notes, please list any people you would like to be grouped with, your preferred location (if you have one), and any requirements you may have (i.e., you can not walk long distances). This will help us create teams prior to the event. Each volunteer will need to sign up and complete a waiver individually.
- Final details will be sent a few days prior to the event to those who sign up.
- Volunteers under 18 - will need to create a volunteer account and provide a guardian email to complete the waiver online.
- Volunteers under 13 - will need to provide a guardian email to create a volunteer account and complete the waiver online.
Location: Lake Tahoe Community College (1 College Dr, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150). Sampling will take place at various sites around South Lake Tahoe.
Time: Sampling: 9 am - noon | Lunch and Fun: noon – 1 pm
What to bring: Sturdy shoes, long pants, weather-appropriate layers, sun protection including a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a full reusable water bottle.
We provide: Safety materials, sampling materials, training, snacks, free lunch, and cool giveaways.
