AIS Defense Team Outreach at Kiva Beach

Expired

Description

We are looking to get volunteers on and around our high-volume beaches and lakes to help prevent Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) from getting into these beautiful bodies of water. With the emerging threat from golden mussels, we need volunteers now more than ever before to help Keep Tahoe Blue!

Volunteers will go to high-traffic areas to educate the community and hand out information, alerting non-motorized users about the threat of golden mussels. Volunteers will also be providing information on the Eyes on the Lake Program, Tahoe Keepers Program, and how to Clean, Drain, and Dry. While out in the field, volunteers will tally the number of beach goers spoken too and the number of non-motorized crafts seen while canvassing. We will provide volunteers with the materials needed to take out in the field and collect data while conducting casual outreach.

Shifts are one-hour long, but volunteers are able to sign up for multiple consecutive shifts on any given day, if interested in being out there for longer period of time! It can be more fun to volunteer in pairs/in groups so feel free to encourage family and friends to sign up and join!

Before going out into the field for this opportunity, volunteers will be required to watch a one-hour prerecorded training AIS Defense Team Training, and will need to email protect@keeptahoeblue.org to coordinate picking up materials from the KTB office between Mondays and Fridays (2877 Lake Tahoe Blvd. South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150). In the training we have identified specific areas that are current priorities based on necessity, but we welcome volunteers to assist with this AIS Defense initiative wherever they're recreating. Please sign up based on location site!
