Description

We are looking for volunteers to help protect Lake Tahoe from Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) by supporting education and outreach at high‑volume beaches and lake access areas. With the emerging threat of golden mussels, we need volunteers now more than ever to help Keep Tahoe Blue.

This one‑hour training prepares volunteers to serve as members of the Eyes on the Lake Outreach Team. During the training, volunteers will learn about the threat of golden mussels, how AIS spreads, and why prevention is critical to protecting Lake Tahoe. The training will be available both in person at the Keep Tahoe Blue Spurlock/Evers Environment and Education Center as well as online via Zoom (link to join will be sent out to those that have registered in the 'final details' email prior to the training).

The training will also cover:

  • How to engage with the public in a friendly and effective way
  • Key outreach messaging, including Clean, Drain, Dry practices
  • An overview of the Eyes on the Lake Program and the Tahoe Keepers Program
  • What to expect during site‑based outreach shifts, including data collection basics

Completion of this training is required before signing up for Eyes on the Lake Outreach Team shifts at specific locations. After completing the training, volunteers will be eligible to participate in outreach shifts at priority sites around the lake.
