Description

Join us for a morning of gratifying restoration and beautification work.

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on, in-the-field event. By pitching in, you will help improve the ecosystem function and the wildlife habitats that surround Lake Tahoe.

Sign up: Walk-ins are welcome!

Parking and meeting location: Tallac Historic Site. Off of Emerald Bay Road, turn onto Heritage Way. Veer right and park in the parking lot. Parking is limited, so please carpool if possible. We will be meeting in the picnic area right next to the parking lot.

What we are doing: Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to join us for a fun morning of restoration projects. Together we will work to restore some of Lakes Tahoe's nearshore environment that was impacted over the winter season and prepare it for the busy summer months ahead.

Projects will be selected onsite. These include

  • Litter pickup and grounds keeping projects (Easy)
  • Sanding and finishing picnic tables (Medium)
  • Decommissioning social trails, trail maintenance and defining trails (Hard)

Work is from 9 am - 12 pm and lunch is from 12:15 - 1:30 pm.

What to bring: For the medium and hard projects, wear sturdy boots, long pants and long sleeves. Wear layers, clothes and shoes that you can walk on sand and dirt that may get muddy and protect you from the sun. For the easy project, wear shorts, sturdy sandals and sun protection. Everyone bring sunglasses, work gloves (if you have them), and a full reusable water bottle.

We provide: Training, equipment, refreshments, fun giveaways and lunch for volunteers afterwards. Lunch will be catered by Maria's Mexican Restaurant.

Partners: We are proud to work with the US Forest Service  and The Great Basin Institute for this event.
