Keep Tahoe Blue is seeking volunteers to help collect parking data at Emerald Bay. This effort will support ongoing work to better understand and manage visitation in this high-use area.
We are recruiting teams of at least three volunteers to conduct shoulder parking counts along SR 89, between the switchbacks and just past the viaduct along the shoulder of the highway.
What you’ll do:
- Conduct visual counts of shoulder-parked vehicles
- Record data using a provided form
- Complete car counts hourly
Team roles (3 people required):
- Driver
- Counter for the lake side of the road
- Counter for the mountain side of the road
Counters will record the number of vehicles parked within designated zones along the highway.
What you’ll need:
- A vehicle to transport your team
- A team of three volunteers (you plus two others)
- Come to the office before/at the start of your shift to receive materials and training from staff
What we provide:
- Training, materials (including paper form, clicker, and clipboard), and instructions for data collection will be provided from Keep Tahoe Blue staff members

- July 18
- July 29
- August 1
Time commitment: Volunteer shifts are approximately 4.5 hours, depending on conditions, however if volunteers are out in the field for longer than 4.5 hours, to update me at julie@keeptahoeblue.org so I can make sure your time is reflected accurately.
